Zoom quiz screen share. How to host the ultimate ‘pub’ quiz on Zoom
Have you taken part in a Zoom quiz recently with your friends or family? Zoom quizzes are trending at the moment, especially as many of us are in another lockdown. Last year, during the first lockdown, I took part in several Zoom quizzes with my friends, including hosting one myself. In the process of creating my quiz, I came up with lots of quiz round ideas!
I shared many of these in a previous post: 14 Unique and Hilarious Zoom Quiz Round Ideas and I am going to share 11 more quiz round ideas with you here. This post will hopefully provide you with plenty of inspiration if you are organising your own Zoom quiz!
Before we get started on the quiz round ideas, I want to recommend that you make a PowerPoint presentation to accompany your Zoom quiz. This should include written versions of the questions, and of course the picture rounds. You can share your screen on Zoom so that your participants can read the questions and follow along easily with the quiz.
For this round, find or make some recordings of everyday sounds, and play them to your quiz participants for them to identify. Examples could be a kettle boiling, a supermarket checkout machine or an aeroplane flying overhead.
Another option is to gather some noisy objects and make real noises with them off-camera for your participants to identify. Good objects for this would be squeaky dog toys, crisp packets, or a stapler. Search the internet to find some riddles — simple ones are probably best. Show them to your participants and give them a set amount of time, for example, 3 minutes, to solve as many riddles as they can. Alternatively, you can read out or show the riddles one by one like a normal quiz round.
Find some well-known quotes from movies and get your quiz participants to identify what movie they are from. You can narrow this down to a certain genre of movies, for example, Disney or Marvel if you feel that would be more suited to the people taking part. You could also offer an additional point for naming the character that said the quote. For this round, the answer to every question is a number.
For example: How many faces does a cube have? Or, How many players are there on a Rugby team? You could make it so that no two questions have the same answer — perhaps have 10 questions where the answers are 1 to 10 but not in that order! In my previous quiz round post , I suggested taking screenshots of famous landmarks on Google Maps and getting your participants to identify them. These can look very different from a birds-eye-view!
Obviously, this quiz round will only be fair if all of your participants are familiar with the same area. Find or create silhouette images of various objects, buildings, animals or even people! Get the quiz participants to identify what, or who they are. Gather some short clips of songs from musicals, and play them to your participants.
Get them to identify what musical the song is from. You could offer additional points for naming the actual song! Find some clips of TV theme tunes and get the participants to identify which show they are from. Test how well your participants know their vegetables! Find or take photos of vegetables, ideally including some less common ones such as turnips, swedes and pak choi.
To make it harder, you could cut vegetables in half and photograph cross-sections of them, or even take close-up photos of part of the vegetable. Get your participants to guess what vegetable they are. You could also include fruits if you like. This is a general knowledge round, but all the answers begin with the same letter.
Once they get one answer, they will know what the letter is… if their answer is right! This round could include slightly harder-than-average questions because the participants have an advantage once they know the first letter. Name some historical events and get the participants to guess what year they happened in. You could offer 2 points if they guess the exact year, and 1 point if they are within, say, 10 years of the correct year.
If you choose more recent events, maybe only allow the exact year! This is a reminder to have a tiebreaker question prepared just in case you end up with a tie! I am totally going to look into these quizzes more closely. These are some really fun ideas! Me and my friends have been very into Zoom quizzes over the past year. That is such a good round idea! I would definitely consider doing a round like that next time I am making a Zoom quiz, but I will need to practice my photoshop skills first! These all sound like so much fun!

Zoom quiz screen share.11 Fun and Creative Quiz Round Ideas for Your Zoom Quiz
As you're going to be running this over Zoom, instead of reading all your questions and struggling with people not being able to hear, make a presentation. That can be in PowerPoint, Keynote, Slides or anything else - and we think Slides works really well, with the advantage of being free.
The key thing here is to make a presentation that makes your quiz pop - because everyone else is going to see this. As always practice, practice, practice, get your transitions or effects organised, so you know what you're doing. The advantage of using a presentation is that you can embed everything in that presentation - a picture round, quotes to complete, music round, whatever you like. Top tip : Put each question on a different slide, so you can click through easily, or back if you need to.
It's worth shutting down everything else you don't need - so quit and exit Skype, Word, Photoshop - anything that could be running in the background that you don't actually need, as Zoom is a demanding app. As you'll be sharing your screen, all you want open is the things you actually need to share - and the less programs you have open, the less Zoom will offer you when it comes to sharing.
A great way to make your quiz easier is to use an answer sheet. Sure, people can just write answers on a bit of paper, but preparing an answer sheet means people know where they are, how many questions to expect and you can make the structure of your quiz a little more complicated - for example with two part answers, picture rounds and so on. Once you've built your quiz, put together your answer sheet and send it through with the invitation or meeting details and people can just print it off at home.
Remember that as the host, people are likely to be looking at, and listening to you more than any other participant, so think about what you have in the background, and what noise there is around you. Silence your phone to avoid those annoying bings and bongs, and don't sit next to your fridge or washing machine on the spin cycle.
Also don't sit with your back to a window or patio doors, because you'll be silhouetted. A nice plain background is simple; a studious-looking bookcase is very much on trend right now, or you can pick a Zoom background , but again, keeping it simple reduces the demands on your computer.
Zoom, as a tool for businesses first and foremost, has a collection of features that are useful when presenting your quiz - and the main one here is the ability to share your screen, so you can show off that presentation and people can get involved with a professional experience. Zoom meetings can be scheduled, or you can just go in and start a meeting and get others to join.
For something organised like a quiz, it's great to schedule it for the time you want it to take place, sharing the meeting ID and password via whatever means you want. If scheduling a meeting, those ID and passwords are on the scheduling page for you. If you've started a new meeting, you can find the details by clicking the "i" in the top left corner and sharing - but be organised, and schedule instead. If you are scheduling, you can setup a lot of the parameters of the meeting in advance, including allowing people in before you the host is there.
That's great for social events. If you're doing a lot of Zooming it is worth paying for a few months - or you can cancel at any time. Another window like the one pictured above should then appear asking you what to share.
Given quizzes can get fairly competitive, players will no doubt want to confer with their chums. After that, everyone will be able to hear whatever audio is playing on your computer. Whether you want a tracker to keep tabs on your everyday activity or a watch, this will help you find your perfect Fitbit.

The host can create a quiz all about the guest of honor for attendees to answer during the video call. With a baby shower, the quiz questions could focus on the mother-to-be, the new arrival, or general knowledge about babies or parenting.
The more creative the questions are and the more the guests can interact, the more fun the Zoom quiz will be! A host could invite extended family members or just a close group of friends. For now, many of these groups are meeting virtually. While people often enjoy an unstructured opportunity to chat, a quiz can be a different way to encourage conversation within these groups. Until we can safely meet in person, these online social gatherings are an excellent way to get people talking and laughing.
A Zoom quiz will encourage interaction within your group. There are two parts to setting up a successful Zoom quiz. The first part is creating the quiz for your Zoom call. The second part is hosting the Zoom call for your quiz. Begin by selecting the platform where you want to build your quiz. Next, decide if you want to make your quiz from scratch or use a template. For your first quizzes, I recommend using a template. There are tons of options that will fit perfectly with myriad topics.
For example, there are templates for business quizzes , education quizzes , and social quizzes with topics like entertainment. Interact has tons of other templates that you can customize however you want, so be sure to check them all out!
First, make sure you have the right type of quiz. For example, your template might be a personality quiz but you need a scored quiz. You can change that at the bottom left of your quiz. Once you confirm that you want to switch the quiz type, you can start customizing the quiz. To customize your quiz, you can change the quiz cover, switch the quiz results, and add the questions you want to include.
Note: Unless you want quiz-takers to take the quiz online and connect their score with their email address, you do NOT need to create an opt-in form for your quiz. It only takes a few minutes to get ready for your Zoom quiz. Then choose the date and time when you want to host your meeting. For example, breakout rooms can be enabled under In-Meeting Advanced settings.
Other settings you might want to change are those related to screen sharing and annotation. Once you have the meeting all set up, you can invite your guests.
There is a default invitation you can use, or you can create your own invitation and include the Zoom link. I underlined the meeting link so you know what to use in your invitation. You can share your quiz through the screen-sharing options at the bottom of the Zoom screen.
When you share your screen within the Zoom call, you can choose which tab you want to share. Notice how it shows all the open windows on my computer and I can share the one that has the quiz in it.
You can then do whatever you need in the background to create the quiz experience that you want. Maybe you want to add an audio timer to build urgency or clapping. You can keep your Spotify playlist open for the music round. Your Zoom guests will be amazed at your new Zoom skills!
